What will be the effect? Tuning? Should I expect back stalling?Ozone kites don’t require them and I eventually want to have 3 bars with different line lengths for different wind strengths. Can I put the pigtails on my 2 razors and thereby make all 4 kites compatible with the same bar/ines? I know I’ll have to play around with this to get it right but I’m hoping somebody has already figured some of it out and can let me know what they found out. Anybody else fly Ozone bars with OR kites?…….Gary Alberta
2014-11-09T18:24:17+00:00 14.5 Flite V3 First Session https://www.oceanrodeo.com/forums/viewthread/4594/ https://www.oceanrodeo.com/forums/viewthread/4594/#When:01:49:50Z
Ok, a bit of disclosure, I’m a tech rider for OR, and have been riding OR kites for 4 years now going from the Rise to my current quiver of 10/8m Razors, 12m Cypher. I’m not a fan of lightwind riding, I’d rather surf or just not go out in light air. Light wind to me being anything below 12 knots. My main reason for getting this kite was to squeeze better sessions out of those 12 - 15 knot days that we get a lot, and it will a replacement for my 12m Cypher. I’m 6’0, 180 lbs, and ride roughly 50/50 twintip (134 Nobile 2HD/surfboard (5’9” quad) now.

So, with all of that said, we had a pretty typical fall teaser wind, where we have pre-frontal SW winds which bring in warm air as well as the ubiquitous marine layer limiting it to 10 knots roughly. The kite arrived on my doorstep today, so I figured oh well, I’ll go down to the beach, pump it up, maybe take a few pictures, and possibly put it up for a bit.

First thoughts out of the bag, the kite feels lightweight for it’s size, and the leading edge feels skinnier than typical. Everything else looks typical OR construction. Windalert showed basically 9 - 13 knots, mostly in the 10 to 12 range. I launch and was fully powered to the point I had to depower the kite for most of the session. I honestly am amazed at the power the kite had. I was expecting at best to mow the grass, instead I had absolutely no issue staying upwind, jumping, and doing whatever. It felt like what 15 - 17 knots would feel like on my 12m Cypher.

Turning speed is probably a touch slower than the 12m Cypher, but not by much, all in all, downloops, etc. were plenty quick and responsive. The kite drifted well while riding a surfboard, and was very stable with no fluffing. Absolutely no stalling. I loved it.

On the downside, I think it’s going to take some time to nail down jumping, I’m used to the snappy pull from the Razor, and my timing was definitely off with this kite. However, I think it’s more my issue than anything else, as there were a few times where my timing was lined up right and had really nice lofty jumps with decent hangtime. Again, I’m amazed I was able to jump.

All in all, this is the best product OR has released since i’ve been riding the kites. I love the Razor kites and their responsiveness, but I am honestly shocked at how well this kite preformed. Keep in mind of course, I’ve never flown any other lightwind kite (including either of the first two generations of Flite) and this was only one session. I’ll update and do a complete review once I get a few more sessions in.

PS - Just for s’s and g’s, I weighed myself with the Flite and my 12m Cypher to see the delta on the weight. The Flite came out to 7.8 lbs, the 12m Cypher 8.4. OR maybe able to confirm if that sounds correct or not.
2014-11-07T01:49:50+00:00 2nd Generation vs. 3rd Generation Prodigy comparison https://www.oceanrodeo.com/forums/viewthread/4588/ https://www.oceanrodeo.com/forums/viewthread/4588/#When:17:40:46Z
Anyone out there have input on comparing 2nd and 3rd Generation Prodigies? Does the 3rd Generation Prodigy have as much low end as the Razors, especially the 12m? Has the turning speed improved? How about drift?
2014-10-20T17:40:46+00:00 2014 Razor v’s 2013 Razor https://www.oceanrodeo.com/forums/viewthread/4578/ https://www.oceanrodeo.com/forums/viewthread/4578/#When:22:51:05Z
can anyone comment on or compare the 2013 Razor and 2014 Razor in the 10m size particularly.

Flying characteristics in particular but any info would be great.

I am a new fan of these kites and now have 7m, 8m 2013 and 9m 2014.
2014-09-13T22:51:05+00:00 2014 Prodigy review and tips? https://www.oceanrodeo.com/forums/viewthread/4576/ https://www.oceanrodeo.com/forums/viewthread/4576/#When:07:01:34Z
I Just finished a 7 meter Prodigy session on Keho Lake Alberta. I have been riding razors and switched to Prodigy late this summer. Today is another example of why I think OR will be selling a lot of Prodigy kites. I started on the 9.5 and never got blowin off but really felt the kite loading up and starting to get a bit lofty. I threw on the 7 and .. wow…instant comfort in the meter high waves and gusty 40 to 60 km winds. This kite instills confidence like none other. No surprises with this kite and in the 7m size it is as fast as the razor and sits in the wave pocket perfectly.
Does any one have some tips on how to get the most out of the Prodigy kites ?
2014-09-02T07:01:34+00:00 Salmon Foilboard Fishing https://www.oceanrodeo.com/forums/viewthread/4569/ https://www.oceanrodeo.com/forums/viewthread/4569/#When:03:55:40Z
Salmon Foilboard Fishing
This weekends accidental kite foil fishing catch of a 19.5 lb 36” long salmon at Sherman Island in the Sacramento river certainly has to be one of the craziest things that has ever happened to me in 10 years of kiting.
I was about a 3/4 of a mile upwind from the Sherman Island launch kiting on my 6m Ocean Rodeo kite and Spotz hydrofoil when I hit something with the foil and went flying off the board. I am used to occasionally hitting fish, logs, seaweed etc on the foil so i didn’t think much of it but knew it wasn’t a sandbar since i was in the middle of the channel. Got back up on my foil and about 20 feet back near where I had just crashed I saw a large fish that was stunned and flopping around. similar to like when i have run into striped bass in the bay. I went to try to pick it up and then i realized that it was a giant salmon. It was hit pretty hard and was def dying.
It was so slippery that the only way to hold it was to put my hand thru the gills while grabbing onto my kite bar. The teeth were tearing into my skin and i was starting to bleed also.
Foiling downwind while holding onto a swinging slimy 20lb weight resulted in several more good wipeouts but i managed to make it most of the way back. In the process of trying to foil in with it near the shore i crashed my kite in the reeds and had to relaunch it out of the reeds while still holding onto the fish.
(The peanut gallery was laughing at me looking like a kook with my kite in the bushes because they couldn’t see the fish…lol)
Finally made it back to the beach and with everyone helping to carry it back to the parking lot got it put on ice in a tub. BTW… whosever keg bucket i ended up with i need to get it back to you… with some fresh salmon Thanks!!
Quite an experience!!

2014-08-05T03:55:40+00:00 Razor Information needed https://www.oceanrodeo.com/forums/viewthread/4568/ https://www.oceanrodeo.com/forums/viewthread/4568/#When:13:48:57Z
I am a newbie on this forum. I purchased a second hand 2013 model 8m Razor about two months ago. I must say that I am so impressed with its performance. I have been a North Rebel fan (mostly 5m, 7m, 8m and 10m) for a long time but am so pleased to find a kite that feels alive.

I love the way the 8m flies.

My questions are:

Can anyone comment if the other sizes have similar properties. Fast response, good bottom end and generally fun to fly. Curious about the 10m.

Is there enough of a difference in wind range to warrant owning the 7m? or would the 5m Storm be the next step. I notice that there used to be a 5m Razor but no longer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
2014-08-04T13:48:57+00:00 Direct Depower with single line flagging? https://www.oceanrodeo.com/forums/viewthread/4566/ https://www.oceanrodeo.com/forums/viewthread/4566/#When:21:11:07Z
Does anyone have any experience using a single line flagging bar with any of the OR Direct Depower bridaled kites?
2014-07-29T21:11:07+00:00 2011 Razor 8m problem https://www.oceanrodeo.com/forums/viewthread/4560/ https://www.oceanrodeo.com/forums/viewthread/4560/#When:15:22:27Z
I have been using the Razors for the last 4 years, very familiar with them. I recently bought a 2011 used 8m Razor. In gusty winds it will fold in the wing tips and excessively luff when really loaded up. I am 210 lbs. and kite in the Gorge. I pump my small kites to 8.2 psi. It acts like it is underinflated but is not. Thinking about going to 9 psi. It steers in a balanced manner and is fine except in gusty really powered up conditions. I had another 2011 8m Razor that didn’t do this. Going to measure bridle segments and compare to a friends 8m 2011. Looking for advice on what to look for and were there any bridle issue with some of the 2011’s? Thanks for any help!
2014-07-04T15:22:27+00:00 Adding Locations https://www.oceanrodeo.com/forums/viewthread/4556/ https://www.oceanrodeo.com/forums/viewthread/4556/#When:22:00:25Z
I am still having problems adding locations to the map.
