I tried one of these towards the end of this last winter—it was awsome. Most of the issues that the Pyro had are now solved. It looks like a wetsuit, except that it has increased mobillity and comfort. The attached hood makes duck diving a way better experience (also makes it impossible to forget at home—unpleasant exsperience when it is snowing).

The big thing for me was the flexability around the knees and hips—this suit has it.

I’m using the Pyro Surf even now in July since the water is colder than usual… Funny yesterday, I forgot my Fleece so I just put it on over my jeans and T shirt…. eh not bad .. nice to be dry after easiest change I’ve ever had…

Here is vid last year with Surf… feels like a Steamer but warmer and dryer of course… so the new suit would be nice too….

Hi There,
This suit looks quite sick!
Anyway I wonder if I could wear it in not so cold waters. For example have you tried to wear the dry external layer only?Is it posible?
Thanks a lot

I have worn my Pyro Surf drysuit in summer, but you still want to wear a layer under the dry core- on a warm day I wore thin merino wool long johns and long sleeve top.. helped with the comfort.  A thin polypro undergarment is the ticket- and just add more layers of poly/ wool/ merino as the temperature goes down.

The predator looks absolutely awesome but what is going on with the production of these suits? Here in the UK people tell me you have more chance of winning the lottery than getting hold of a predator, least before Christmas. I have one on order but have been told exactly that, earliest I will receive my suit is in December. The suit was released at the beginning of August, Ocean Rodeo GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER!!!! This isn’t good enough and you are likely to lose customers to other brands…...

Hi Nick,

I think somewhere along the line there’s been a miscommunication, and my apologies for that. While I personally don’t have any involvement with overseas markets, here in the US we are not releasing these suits until January at the earliest. The bottom line is that while we’d all love to see them go out the door tomorrow, because of production schedules etc this is just not possible.  The suit will be worth the wait, and is 100% unique in the market. grin

Cheers,

Hey guys.
I’m an intermediate rider, live in edmonton, ab. I’m a kiter and looking for a suit to maximize my season. i love the sounds of the predator suit. I was wondering if you’re incorporating the session leg straps into the suit like you have in the session shorts? also, have you worked out a size chart out for the suit yet? Any additional info you can provide me will be much appreciated!

I test a lot of products out for a shop here in Edmonton and I always love the Ocean Rodeo gear. I’m trying to spread the good word. I swear by the Rise and can’t wait to see what you do next.

Does anybody know what’s the latest on the delivery of the predator (at least stateside)? The U.K. distributor is saying end of Feb, anybody out there, anywhere taken delivery of a production run predator yet? Just curious as I’ve had one on order since last September….

Can anybody at Ocean Rodeo please have the courtesy to give me (and others out there)  an update on the current situation with release of the Predator? I placed an order for this suit 5 months ago, these suits are not cheap and I would like to know that I will eventually receive something for which I have already paid for. Any explanations would be most welcome.

Yours expectantly

One freezing customer!!!! (currently using 5 mm wettie)

My sincere apologies, but I have just learned that the first run of production suits will not be available until around the middle of March. These will be available in sizes M, L and XL, with the other sizes to come in the summer. I know everyone is eager to get them (including us!), and they will be worth the wait!

Do you recommend to use the predator for windsurfing in big wave or use a drysuit is too dangerous?

Tighter fitting drysuits like the Predator would be better for waves than baggy style in my opinion.
Less air squeezed out on falls will help keep more water out.
Also easier to get through waves with less drag and splashing on the legs.

Sure everyone will love them when they get them.
Will get them out ASAP for customers once they arrive.

I actually use mine for surfing. A few weeks ago my leash came undone and I had a fairly lenghty swim in with medium sized surf. It was no problem and I actually ended up bodysurfing—I had forgotton how much fun that was. I would say that this suit is ideally suited to anyone playing in waves—regardless of their approach, eg kiting, surfing SUP, windsurfing etc. I’ve used it for the full winter and am still totally stoked (pre production model). The new production model is going to create a paradigm shift when it comes to coldwater surf.

Anybody started taking delivery of production models yet? Can anybody at OR give us latest?

Also, any problems with wearing the Predator with a waist harness whilst kiting?

Really appreciate the update, just seems an eternity having to wait to take delivery. No doubt it will be worth it though!! I imagine the pre-production models have been extensively road/surf tested, have there been any issues with wear arising from waist harness use? On the pyro pro it looks like the captive suspension panel is pretty abraision resistent to harness use, how does the predator outer neoprene layer compare?

Thanks in advance…

Resistance to harness wear on the Predator will be very similar to the abrasion resistance offered by a high end super stretch surfing wetsuit.
All the high wear areas on the outer skin are super stetch nylon out, with the exception of the chest panel (skin out). We need skin out on the chest for surfing as it offers a superior grip while paddling a surfboard…

Any word yet on the drycores?  The air temp has been unseasonably warm so far on the south side of Lake Michigan so the 5/3 is doing fine.  Eager to layer up and ditch the booties.

Interestingly, I wore a wetsuit for the first time in a few months while surfing yesterday. It was a new hyperstretch suit (5-4-3mm), however, I have to say, the Predator wins. I thought that the legs might have a bit more flex in a wetsuit—that was just not the case. Paddling was definately better in the Predator. As for getting back into the wet wetsuit for the 2nd session, the predator wins this one 100%.

So, the Predator is:
Warmer
Less restrictive on movement
More adaptable to different water and air temps.

What are the inside calf velcro straps for?  For the life of me I can’t figure out what they do.  They are on the outside of the outer layer on the messial surface of the mid calf.

Found a great method of closing the back zipper.  Simply donned both layers then entered the water to squeeze remaining air out.  It was then easy to pull down the back zipper as, without this, I found I needed help.  I like being independent and this suit certainly does it.

Hi,

Is this drysuit available in the UK? My local shop stocks OR kites and drysuits but not this one.  Will he be able to order one in for me if I want one?

This seems a great idea as I have kitesurfed in other drysuits including OR ones and the main problem is the resistance when body dragging; something this suit does not seem to suffer from!

Hope to hear back soon (with good news?!)

OMG!!!
Tried on one of these suits for the very 1st time tonite…this new inner core material is so soft and light!
Its very easy to slip on with that zipper geometry, and a zippered inner pocket is a great plus.
The outer layer is a lot tougher material than I was expecting from .5mm, its very strong and lightweight too.
Having the suspenders incorprated into the outer layer feels more natural, the fit is amazing!
Can’t wait to try it on the water…come on winter, bring it on!

Last sunday I tried the pred on the water for half a day in mild conditions (mid-50’s f) on Lake Washington in Seattle.
I was concerned that I might overheat going in to it, the lake was still warmer than the air temperature.
I slipped on the inner dry core only and set up my kite and flying lines.
Felt kind of rapper as it was very baggy, but it kept me cool while I pumped up a big kite.

I slipped into the outerlayer and harness’d up to launch.
Some dude asked me about then,“Did you just change out of a drysuit and into a wetsuit?”
I had one other guy come up to me between sessions and ask if I was wearing a drysuit, and how thick was it too.
Be ready for questions like this if you get a Predator, its not like anything else out there right now.

I had some sweet sessions during these little micro system pushes that would squeeze through the lake,
I did not notice the suit at all, no sweating or chill, and felt zero constrictions on mobility.
This built in hoodie is super sweet too you guys, this suit is the whole pkg this time!
And OMG!!! The new fabric for the dry core is amazing!
How did you guys do this!!!?
Not only was I dry inside afterwards, but most of the outside surface of the inner core seemed dry too,
and it was sitting right underneath a wet layer of .5mm neoprene!
The predator is like a machine, a machine made out of textiles.

I am really impressed with the Predators design ergonomics, the performance of its parts, and the functionality of the whole suit.
This is a truly great system for kiting and water play! cool smile

Stoked you like the new suit Craig! We are getting more and more interest in the Predator / Surf Dry line of suits!

You’re right too, you can use them for a lot more than just Surfing, all water sports suit this suit, including of course Kiteboarding!
