Hi,

I recently bought a 2008 rise and bar. Thought I was getting a 2009.
Anyway, is there anyway of upgrading the 2008 bar to a later model?

it depents on your bar stick if you got the alu bar insert its possible

I think the 2008 bar still has the velcro ‘eject’ cuff on it?  If so, I have some 2007 bars with this cuff and I have upgraded the chicken loop to the newer hard plastic cuff with integrated cleat.  It is a bit of a job to thread the sheeting line thru, but it is doable (seach for other posts).  You will not get to take advantage of all the latest improved safety features with this small upgade like the 2011 rollover, but it is a nice upgrade.

hmm, i don’t know if it has the alu bar insert or not. where is this insert? i haven’t even unwound the lines yet…

I don’t think OR does any kit upgrade of that old of a bar.  They seem to have some replacement/repair parts from more recent bar models but their compatability relies on your inginuity, ability and desie to perform out of norm modifications.  Evaluation of your overall state of your bar is something that should be considered.

Ye, I really need to take it out to the beach, unwind and assess it. Have never used an under the bar depower system before.

Maybe needs new lines. Who knows. Toying between “fixing” it up or buying another new model.

I used that bar for several years.  While the newer bars (2010 and newer - i wasn’t too impressed with the 2009 model) are more refined, its really still the same concept.  I found the 2008 model to be just as reliable in terms of the chicken loop release mechanism.  If that’s what you’re concerned with, don’t be.

08 Bar and QR work great.  Still have mine with my 09 12M as my go to setup.

We do not provide bar upgrade kits to take your 2008 or 2009 bar up to 2012 standards but we do sell a lot of spare parts which you could make use of.

For example, you could order a new chicken loop to match the ones we sell now. You could also buy the “2010 Roll Over Bar Mod” kit which would include a new trim line and outside leaders such that your bar can work with our Direct Depower / Roll Over Bridle compatible kites. From there, depending on the age of your bar you might also want to buy a sliding stopper ball and possibly consider a new swivel assembly at the same time. Of course, if you’re doing all of that you should likely consider replacing the lines on the bar as well!

I also just picked up new 2008 bar with 2010 rise kite,  I am hoping all connections are compatable . I bought from Windance , and have full confidence they would not sell a set up that did not work together. Any opinions and things to keep an eye on would be welcome.
